While plenty of folks worry that it isn’t safe to travel this year, not many are willing to give up travel completely, with many turning to their cars to help them get away.
A new Cooper Tires survey finds:
- 44% of drivers say they are taking more road trips this summer.
- The average road tripper has already taken two this summer, with another two planned this year.
- Two in three drivers are opting for road trips because they consider it a safer form or traveling right now.
- Reasons they feel road trips are safer include:
- Being able to get to their destination in a private vehicle (51%)
- A lack of large groups at the destination (41%)
- The destination is outdoors (41%)
- Travel was only with members of their immediate household (36%).
- 43% of folks have already replaced one or more of their canceled vacations with some sort of road trip.
- 41% say thanks to road trips they’ve actually increased their travel this year.
- The average road tripper has already visited two states since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, with 35% visiting even more.
- 58% of folks say they plan to take more road trips even after the coronavirus crisis ends.
- That’s likely because 73% say road trips are more fun than flying.
