As we reported separately, Alex Trebek – beloved, longtime host of “Jeopardy!” – has passed away from pancreatic cancer at age 80. Just like the rest of us, celebrities have been watching Trebek on television since he started hosting the game show in 1984.
Stars like John Legend, Ryan Reynolds, along with fellow TV stars Pat Sajak, Vanna White, Steve Harvey and Katie Couric, have paid tribute on social media. Here’s what they have to say:
- “I was obsessed with Jeopardy as a nerdy kid growing up in Ohio,” Legend writes. “I’ve loved and revered Alex Trebek since I can remember. What an iconic career.”
- “Alex Trebek was kind enough to film a cameo for our film Free Guy last year despite his battle. He was gracious and funny,” Reynolds recalls. “In addition to being curious, stalwart, generous, reassuring and of course, Canadian. We love you, Alex. And always will.”
- “It was an honor for me to be a part of his professional family for nearly 40 years,” says Sajack. “His strength and courage and grace during his recent health struggles inspired countless others. Alex was truly one of a kind.”
- “I will cherish the many memories I have shared with Alex Trebek that date back well before either of our careers took off,” White adds. “I will always be in awe of the way he faced the battle he fought so valiantly and I’m devastated to lose my longtime friend.”
