Most parents welcome open communication with their children’s teachers, but one dad is pretty annoyed with a message he and his wife got from their kid’s teacher. It seems she made a comment about the “fun lunches” the mom makes for their eight-year-old and the whole thing left a bad taste in the father’s mouth, so he’s taking to Reddit to see if he overreacted.
In a post to the “Am I the A-hole” section, the dad writes that his wife tries to make really fun lunches for their child. She goes all out, following people on Instagram for inspiration for their creative food ideas. He explains, “It’s important to us that our child likes her lunches and that she’s happy.” So when he got a message from her teacher asking them to “simplify” the lunches and do “the typical sandwich thing” because other students “don’t have as elaborate lunches and it might make them feel bad,” he was miffed.
The father responded that they wouldn’t change the lunches, adding, “I really don’t care” and that “if other kids get upset maybe then it would be a good teaching moment.” But after he replied to the teacher, he started to question whether he was too harsh, so he turned to Redditors for advice and they all seem to agree it’s the teacher’s request that was out of line. Some users write that the mother and daughter shouldn’t have to give up their special thing, others point out it’s not the teacher’s business what their kid eats for lunch.
