Picking out a holiday gift for your child’s teacher can be tricky. Do you have your kid make them something special or buy something you hope they’ll like and use? Should you go in together and buy one gift as a class? That’s what one class did and now it’s causing a stir among the parents all because one of them decided to ask the teacher what she would like. And just what was her answer that created the controversy? Designer shoes.
In a post to a U.K. parenting site Mumsnet, one mom shares that another parent is good friends with the teacher, so she took the lead in organizing her gift. She collected money from all the other moms and dads, then asked the teacher what she wanted for the amount, around $200. But the idea of fashionable footwear left some parents complaining.
Some feel it’s better to give the teacher a gift she actually wants, while others think designer shoes are out of line for a teacher present. Even some fellow teachers say it’s a strange gift for something that’s supposed to be from the kids. One parent said they feel the teacher shouldn’t have given an honest answer in this case. And some suggest they should have just bought a gift card instead and let her buy the shoes herself.
