The presents are all unwrapped and the pile of paper and boxes may still be scattered across your living room floor, but at some point soon you’ll have to face the reality that the holiday season is almost over. And while some of us really wish we could leave our festive decor up all year, we’re all going to have to take down our Christmas trees at some point.
That means a mess of dried needles everywhere, but Martha Stewart says it doesn’t have to. She has a hack to make the process mess-free and says, “All you need is an old bed sheet.” Before you follow the lifestyle mogul’s pro-tip, start by taking off all the ornaments, lights, and baubles you’ve adorned your Christmas tree with and set them safely aside.
- Then, lay the sheet on the floor next to the tree and take it out of the tree stand.
- Wrap the trunk in a towel to soak up extra water.
- Lay the tree on its side on the sheet and wrap it up, making sure all branches are covered.
- Take it out of the house trunk-first, that way the branches don’t catch on the door frame and break off.
- And hopefully this helps you avoid the mess of a bazillion stray needles scattered on the floor in a trail out the door.
