Looking to settle down with someone special? Finding the right partner can be challenging, but new research finds there’s one trait that actually makes people more interested in having a serious relationship with you. According to a study from the University of Arkansas, the trait that attracts those looking for long-term commitments is … moral outrage.

Researchers conducted four studies with 870 participants to find out how moral outrage – which is outrage in response to a perceived injustice – influenced dating. They had participants rate the attractiveness of fake dating profiles and found that both men and women viewed moral outrage as an attractive and desirable quality in a long-term partner.

But talking about it only gets you so far. The study finds moral outrage has to be shown in actions, not just words. For someone to be seen as more appealing for a long-term relationship, they have to act on their moral outrage to make it count. So what’s so enchanting about this quality? Study authors explain someone who displays moral outrage is perceived as more benevolent and trustworthy in relationships. And while both men and women in the study saw it as an attractive trait, women were more drawn to men who show it.
